Episode Summary

Stanford alums Greta Meyer and Amanda Calabrese co-founded Tempo to develop the first engineered tampon. They looked at tampon leakage as an engineering problem and developed a solution based on fluid mechanics. Amanda and Greta are also grant recipients from the 10,000 Entrepreneurs (or 10KE) program, a nonprofit founded by Alumni Ventures Group to help young adults explore entrepreneurial careers. We had a chance to catch up with them to talk about the need they’re addressing with Tempo and how they discovered their love of entrepreneurship.

The 10KE program provides undergraduate college students with stipends for summer work at a fast-growing company or their own startup. In 2020, 10KE plans to award a minimum of 25 scholarships, $2,500 apiece for individuals and $5,000 apiece for teams.

  • Apply for the 10KE Internship Grant by January 20, 2020 to be considered in the first round of applicants.
  • Second round applications are due March 23, 2020.
